Platform Engineer

Platform Engineering | National

Platform Engineering National Full-time

About the Role

At MomentumAI, you’ll help build, harden, and support the secure Kubernetes platforms and CI/CD pipelines that power mission-critical systems for enterprise and government clients. Working alongside our Platform Architects, you’ll implement resilient platform designs, contribute to application migrations, and put repeatable, compliance-ready delivery patterns into practice, all aligned to MomentumAI’s Platform-as-a-Product approach.

We are seeking a Platform Engineer who is early in their platform engineering career and eager to deepen their hands-on skills across Kubernetes, CI/CD, and container security. You’ll take direction from senior architects while owning meaningful pieces of delivery, learning the design decisions behind the platforms you help build. This is the on-ramp to our Platform Architect track: as you grow your depth, breadth, and client-facing judgment, you’ll take on architecture ownership, migration leadership, and mentorship responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Platform Engineering: Build and configure Kubernetes-based platforms on cloud and on-premises infrastructure, including air-gapped and disconnected environments, following established architecture patterns
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitOps-first using Argo CD/Flux, or classic pipelines via GitHub Actions/GitLab CI/Jenkins) with automated testing, artifact signing, and environment promotion
  • Container & Cluster Hardening: Apply CIS Benchmarks, admission control (OPA/Gatekeeper/Kyverno), image scanning (Trivy/Anchore/Clair), and secrets management (Vault/KMS) under the guidance of senior architects
  • Application Migration & Modernization: Support discovery, assessment, and execution (rehost/replatform/refactor), including blue/green and canary releases, contributing hands-on to migration work led by architects
  • Infrastructure as Code: Write and maintain Terraform/Pulumi/Helm/Kustomize/Crossplane to codify platform baselines and build repeatable environments
  • Observability & Reliability: Help establish and maintain monitoring and logging (Prometheus/Grafana/ELK/OpenTelemetry), configure autoscaling, and support SLO tracking
  • Security & Compliance: Implement security controls that help platforms meet enterprise security standards and government/industry regulations (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, SOC2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53)
  • Client Delivery: Participate in client engagements, gather requirements, and contribute to technical discussions as you build client-facing skills
  • Documentation: Author and maintain runbooks, how-to guides, and platform documentation for client and internal teams
  • Continuous Learning: Grow your expertise through mentorship, certifications, and increasing ownership on the path toward Platform Architect

Required Qualifications

Strong candidates will meet most (not necessarily all) of the following requirements.

  • 2+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, systems administration, or infrastructure roles
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes (vanilla, OpenShift, vSphere Kubernetes Service / VKS, or EKS/AKS/GKE)
  • Hands-on experience with at least one Infrastructure as Code tool (Terraform, Crossplane, Ansible, or Pulumi)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and Git-based workflows
  • Comfort working in Linux environments and scripting (Bash, Python, or similar)
  • Remote-friendly with travel to client sites as needed

Preferred Qualifications

These are nice-to-haves that strengthen your candidacy. You don’t need all of them.

  • Exposure to GitOps practices (Argo CD, Flux)
  • Familiarity with container security tooling (Trivy, Anchore, Twistlock)
  • Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
  • Consulting or professional services exposure, or other client-facing experience
  • Experience with air-gapped or disconnected environment deployments
  • CKA, CKAD, or cloud provider associate-level certifications (or a clear plan to earn them)
  • Experience with software development, particularly Go, Java, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, Ruby, or Python
  • Experience with VKS, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG), OpenShift, Rancher, or similar enterprise Kubernetes distributions

Nice to Have

  • Active or eligible for a security clearance (TS/SCI a plus for government engagements)
  • Experience working in financial services, federal, or defense environments
  • Familiarity with Platform as a Product methodologies
