About the Role
At MomentumAI, you’ll architect the self-service experiences that make VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9 private clouds accessible to application teams. While our VCF Automation & Operations Engineers build and operate the platform infrastructure, you’ll extend it - designing blueprints, scripting Orchestrator workflows, building custom forms, and wiring up extensibility actions that turn raw infrastructure into polished, policy-governed self-service catalogs.
We are seeking an architect with deep, hands-on experience across the full VCF Automation customization stack - from YAML blueprints and JavaScript-based Orchestrator workflows to extensibility actions in Python and Node.js. You’ll work with platform teams, application developers, security, and operations stakeholders in both commercial and air-gapped environments to deliver curated, automated cloud services that application teams consume through catalogs, portals, and APIs.
What You’ll Do
Blueprints, Custom Forms & Self-Service Catalog
- Blueprint Development: Design VCF Automation blueprints in YAML with input variables, expressions, conditional components, property groups, and cloud-init integration
- Cloud Template Editor & Git Integration: Iterate between visual and YAML editing modes, manage blueprint versions, and use Git integration for version-controlled development
- Custom Request Forms: Build custom catalog request forms with dynamic field visibility, validation rules, computed defaults, and external data sources
- Catalog & Policy Management: Publish catalog items from blueprints, Orchestrator workflows, and VM images, with approval and lease policies for governed self-service
VCF Operations Orchestrator Development
- Workflow Design: Build multi-step Orchestrator workflows with scriptable tasks (JavaScript), decision logic, and reusable actions organized into action modules
- Plug-In Ecosystem: Integrate with vCenter, NSX, Active Directory, REST APIs, SSH, PowerShell, and third-party systems through Orchestrator plug-ins
- Configuration, Resource Elements & Packages: Define configuration and resource elements for shared state, and package content for distribution across instances
VCF Automation Extensibility
- Event Subscriptions: Configure blocking subscriptions for synchronous validation gates and non-blocking subscriptions for asynchronous post-provisioning tasks across compute, network, and deployment event topics
- Extensibility Actions: Develop extensibility actions in Python and Node.js to integrate with external IPAM, CMDB, DNS, and security systems
Day 2 Operations Development
- Custom Resource Actions: Build Day 2 resource actions backed by Orchestrator workflows for operations like snapshots, scaling, patching, and reconfiguration, with custom input forms per action
- Custom Resources & Dynamic Types: Define custom resource types with schema properties and develop dynamic types using the Orchestrator dynamic types plug-in to manage resources beyond built-in types
Modern App & Kubernetes Integration
- VKS & vSphere Pods: Deploy and manage vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) clusters and vSphere Pods through blueprints and catalogs within VCF’s All Apps Organization model
- Cloud Services: Integrate Data Services Manager, Secret Store, and object store into blueprints and workflows for modern application deployments
- CLI & API Automation: Use kubectl, VCF CLI, VCF PowerCLI, and REST APIs for Kubernetes management, bulk operations, and CI/CD pipeline integration
Required Qualifications
Strong candidates will meet most (not necessarily all) of the following requirements.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in infrastructure automation, platform engineering, or cloud development roles
- Programming proficiency in at least two of: JavaScript, Python, Node.js, PowerShell
- Hands-on experience building blueprints, custom forms, and catalog items in VCF Automation or VMware Aria Automation (formerly vRealize Automation)
- Hands-on experience building Orchestrator workflows with scriptable tasks and plug-in integration in VCF Orchestrator or VMware Aria Orchestrator (formerly vRealize Orchestrator)
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, NSX, and VCF concepts (organizations, projects, regions)
- Experience with REST API integration and YAML/JSON templating
- Remote-friendly with travel to client sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications
These are nice-to-haves that strengthen your candidacy. You don’t need all of them.
- Consulting or professional services background with client-facing delivery experience
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional - VCF Automation (VCAP-VCF Automation, 3V0-21.25)
- Hands-on experience with VCF Automation extensibility (extensibility actions, event subscriptions, blocking/non-blocking patterns) and custom Day 2 operations (resource actions, custom resource types)
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (kubectl, Helm, cluster lifecycle management) and container-based workloads
- Experience with developer self-service portal tools (Backstage, Port, or similar internal developer platforms)
- Experience with VCF PowerCLI, VCF CLI, Git-integrated blueprint development, and CI/CD pipelines
Nice to Have
- Active security clearance (TS/SCI preferred for government engagements)
- Experience working in federal or defense environments
- Experience with air-gapped or disconnected environment deployments
- Experience integrating VCF Automation with ITSM platforms (ServiceNow, Jira Service Management)
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) in conjunction with VCF Automation
